After the Great Pruning, there was a vacuum left for a period of time by the members who were banned. This meant that the strength of the UCers was severely depleted, and the Lurkers that lived under the board took their opportunity, lead by the devious and corrupt Scarecrow to attempt to seize power for themselves. When the members returned, the Lurker Horde decided to cut their losses and run back to their tunnels, but they were now known. Some members took it upon themselves to attempt to round the Lurkers up into concentration camps, where their satanic black magic ways would be hidden from the world, some adopted a Lurker as a servant or houseboy. One began harbouring known Lurkers in his attic, having them write diaries for him to sell.
