April Fools' Day jokes are a regular part of Ultimate Central. They started off small, but as the years passed by, the pranks escalated. They were all exclusively jokes on the members, conducted by the mods, until 2008. It started with a PM between
marvelman,
moonmaster, and
Planet-man. They all agreed that after last year's
Lil Kis prank it was time to get the mods back. They decided to stage a fight between many of the regular members of UC, and PM'd a message explaining the prank to all of the members they wanted to get involved.
Immediately after getting that message,
thee great one, thinking it would be funny to pull a prank on the pranksters because he believed the prank to be unfunny and dull, went straight to
ProjectX2 and told him all about the prank. Together, the two thought of a counter-prank, and after bringing it to the other mods, their nefarious plot was brought into action.
At the crucial moment, just when
moonmaster was going to call a boycott of the site, the mods took the opportunity to ban most of the members involved. That night, many of the members involved in the original prank got together on MSN to discuss their next move. Unwittingly, they invited TOG to their conversation. While they came up with a new course of action, TOG was ratting them all out to the mods. The members planned to have
Lithium, who was in on the prank but was not banned, post a fake letter that he'd supposedly been emailed on midnight, April 1st. The letter would be
a fake confession that Planet-man and moonmaster were the same person. Immediately afterwards,
Lithium was to post something along the lines of "Oh, and I forgot about the second letter... APRIL FOOLS'!" signed by all the participating members. The first letter was written by Moony and shared in the MSN chat. TOG sent it to the mods, who edited the names in the letter and posted it three minutes before midnight. The prune-ees were unbanned and some members were given a "
Mr. Article" avatar by
Ice.
Aftermath: After the betrayal by TGO, who betrayed his constituents as "Greatest Member",
Random chose to go into exile for an undetermined amount of time. Many other members were angered by this betrayal and saw the counter-prank as mods abusing their power and ruining their fun. Reactions seem mixed between those who became genuinely angry, those who saw it as a sign that April Fools' Day is stupid anyway, and those who viewed it all as good fun.
marvelman and
TwilightEL are keeping their "Mr. Article" avatars as a way to "punish" the mods, except Ice, who still loves it (freak).
