NextwaveThis is a featured page

Nextwave, another Marvel comic, was written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Stuart Immonen. Nextwave didn't have and didn't need an ongoing plot or serious characterization. The Nextwave team would fight a villain or villains for two issues in an orgy of violence, jokes and awesomeness, then move on. Tragically, Nextwave was canceled after twelve issues, but its memory lives on. It originated many of UC's favorite in-jokes and quotes.

  • One of the characters was called "The Captain", because his full code name made Captain America scrub his mouth out with soap. He was Captain Power, Captain Ron, Captain L. Ron, and many other names before that, but none of them worked out.
  • The comic used small skull-and-crossbones as censor marks instead of asterisks.
  • General Dirk Anger, the main antagonist of Nextwave, used devices like a giant telephone as a communicator or a giant revolver as a Russian roulette game.
  • Aaron Stack, an android character, originated the Robot Pride movement. Members of this movement can be distinguished through their use of the term "fleshy one" and the many useful devices where their internal organs should be.
  • Fin Fang Foom will put you in his pants.
  • The Captain was granted his powers (while drunk) by the "heartstar of the space between galaxies", gifted to him by Spa-Fon and Squa-Tront. Upon learning that he couldn't sell it, he punched both aliens out and threw up on them while trying to see if they had credit cards.
  • Tabitha Smith cannot spell her own name, but she can blow things up. Her catchphrase is "tick tick tick BOOM." Yes, she says it out loud.
  • "Awwww. Cuuuute. Die anyway."
  • One of the deadliest foes of Nextwave are "drop bears", cuddly koalas that are tossed out of airplanes, at which point they devour whatever is underneath them.
  • "Yes! I have a hundred of the Earth dollars!"
  • Elsa Bloodstone once shot a bunch of Mindless Ones. She expected it to be boring. However... "They explode! My life has taken on new meaning."
  • "It's like Shakespeare... but with lots more punching!"
